Locate the condition within the property
A property address may cover several areas and operators. Identify whether you fell at an entrance, restaurant, hotel corridor, store aisle, parking area or walkway. Record the route you followed and the exact condition you encountered. Wider photographs may help explain the surrounding area, lighting, signs and access routes; close-up images may show the condition itself.
Explain what you saw before the fall and what you noticed afterward. Do not guess how long a spill or obstacle had been present. A fall does not by itself establish responsibility; the property condition, conduct of the involved parties and available evidence need review.
Keep incident and property records together
Save the business name, address, receipt or reservation information, and the name or role of the person who received your report. If you were given a report number, insurance contact or written statement, retain the complete document. A sign or business name does not necessarily identify every party responsible for the area.
- Note the date, approximate time and precise location of the fall.
- Keep original photographs and any messages sent at the time.
- Identify witnesses who saw the condition or incident.
- Record which employees or managers responded and what you personally heard.
- Tell an attorney about nearby cameras and any request or response concerning footage.
If you leave San Diego before the claim is resolved
Keep your incident records accessible after returning home. Identify providers you saw near the incident and those continuing your care elsewhere, with appointment dates and treatment recommendations. Tell the firm where you currently live and how to contact you. The incident location, residence of the parties and other facts may affect the review; do not assume travel or an insurance discussion changes a filing deadline.
Preserve the difference between reporting and proof
An incident report can document that a fall was reported, but it may not contain every observation or establish responsibility. Keep your own factual chronology and note any discrepancy without altering the original report. Identify possible video promptly; do not assume making a report causes every recording to be retained.

How our slip-and-fall attorneys can help San Diego clients
If we accept your matter, we may examine photographs, witness accounts, property records and insurance correspondence to identify unresolved questions. The work may include reviewing who controlled the area, what information exists about inspections or repairs, and the records supporting your injuries and losses. Ask who would handle the matter and how you would receive updates.
Questions about a consultation
What if the property will not provide video?
Keep the request and response and identify the camera locations and incident time as accurately as possible. Explain whether footage was said to be unavailable, overwritten or withheld; these are different facts to review.
Should I bring a settlement offer?
Yes. Bring the written offer and release, treatment information, bills and work-loss records. Our settlement guide explains questions about unresolved losses and net recovery.
Is there a San Diego office?
No. Our office is in Sherman Oaks. San Diego clients can begin with a free phone or video consultation. Representation and fee arrangements require review and a written agreement.
