Los Angeles County · 2026 reporting update

Reported incident

LAPD's January 31, 2026 release described a fatal Pacoima hit-and-run involving an older woman crossing a street.

Questions for an individual claim

The investigation should establish the crossing route and available sight distance without assumptions based on age. Recordings may show the vehicle's approach and whether there was an opportunity to respond. Medical and family records serve different purposes and should be maintained separately from fault evidence.

Records to organize

  • The collision report, witness contact information and original scene photographs.
  • Available dashcam or nearby surveillance recordings, with timestamps preserved.
  • Vehicle photographs and inspection records relevant to the reported collision.

Preparing for a consultation

Keep a dated account of the collision and preserve the original files rather than editing the only copy of a recording. Organize treatment records, bills, work absences and insurance correspondence. A news report may identify leads, but the underlying records are needed to evaluate an individual claim. The reported severity of another person’s injuries does not establish the value or outcome of your case.
