Keep the report request separate from reporting the crash
Obtaining an existing collision report and submitting an incident report are different tasks. Anaheim Police’s official traffic-safety page provides separate routes for obtaining an accident report and reporting certain non-injury or hit-and-run incidents. Check the agency’s current instructions and confirm which agency investigated your collision. Do not assume an online reporting option fits an injury collision.
Keep the exact location, date, report number and responding agency together. Save confirmation messages and identify whether you have a final report or only an initial exchange-of-information document.
Reconstruct a rear-end or chain-reaction crash
If several vehicles were involved, record what you saw and felt in sequence. Note whether your vehicle had stopped, how many impacts you experienced and whether there was an interval between them. Separate the first contact from later movement. Final vehicle positions and damage photographs may not show how the sequence began.
- Preserve original recordings before and after the impact.
- Identify vehicles and drivers separately, with available contact and policy details.
- Keep photographs of all relevant sides of the vehicles, when available.
- Identify witnesses who saw the approach or first contact.
Prepare for an injury claim review
Organize medical visits, symptoms, treatment recommendations and work restrictions by date. Keep receipts, bills and income records with supporting documents. Explain relevant prior symptoms and distinguish completed treatment from recommendations. Preserve insurer letters and any requests for statements or records.
How our auto accident attorneys help Anaheim clients
If the firm accepts your matter, the work may include reviewing the collision sequence, investigating missing evidence, examining insurance questions and documenting injuries and losses. We can discuss claim communications, negotiations and whether litigation is appropriate. Ask which issues require investigation and how updates would be provided. See our California car accident lawyer guide.
What if an insurer has already made an offer?
Bring the complete offer and proposed release. Identify whether the payment concerns vehicle damage, bodily injury or both, and explain unresolved treatment questions. Ask about the amount remaining after attorney fees, case expenses and applicable reimbursement obligations. Our settlement guide provides questions for the review.
