Questions for an individual claim
The passing account should be tested against sight distance, lane markings and the location of initial contact. An opposing driver may have had limited avoidance time, but that should be established rather than assumed. Reconstruction can compare the available distance with the vehicles' closing movement.
Records to organize
- The collision report, witness contact information and original scene photographs.
- Available dashcam or nearby surveillance recordings, with timestamps preserved.
- Vehicle photographs and inspection records relevant to the reported collision.
Preparing for a consultation
Keep a dated account of the collision and preserve the original files rather than editing the only copy of a recording. Organize treatment records, bills, work absences and insurance correspondence. A news report may identify leads, but the underlying records are needed to evaluate an individual claim. The reported severity of another person’s injuries does not establish the value or outcome of your case.
