Questions for an individual claim
The death of a potentially responsible driver does not complete the civil investigation. Insurers, ownership records and any estate-related procedural issues require review. Evidence should still be preserved from surviving vehicles and witnesses, even if authorities do not expect criminal charges against a deceased person.
Records to organize
- The collision report, witness contact information and original scene photographs.
- Available dashcam or nearby surveillance recordings, with timestamps preserved.
- Vehicle photographs and inspection records relevant to the reported collision.
Preparing for a consultation
Keep a dated account of the collision and preserve the original files rather than editing the only copy of a recording. Organize treatment records, bills, work absences and insurance correspondence. A news report may identify leads, but the underlying records are needed to evaluate an individual claim. The reported severity of another person’s injuries does not establish the value or outcome of your case.
