Santa Barbara County · 2026 reporting update
Reported incident
KEYT reported one fatality and another rider's major injuries in an August 2026 two-motorcycle collision at the Highway 135 northbound on-ramp to Highway 1.

Questions for an individual claim
Two motorcycles can leave evidence that is harder to interpret than a conventional car-to-car collision. Photographs of separate contact points, rider accounts and helmet-camera files may help distinguish their paths. The investigation should establish the interaction between the motorcycles before assigning fault to either rider.
Records to organize
- The collision report, witness contact information and original scene photographs.
- Available dashcam or nearby surveillance recordings, with timestamps preserved.
- Vehicle photographs and inspection records relevant to the reported collision.
Preparing for a consultation
Keep a dated account of the collision and preserve the original files rather than editing the only copy of a recording. Organize treatment records, bills, work absences and insurance correspondence. A news report may identify leads, but the underlying records are needed to evaluate an individual claim. The reported severity of another person’s injuries does not establish the value or outcome of your case.
